Week 1 didn’t go according to plan.

Green Bay led Minnesota 22–10 before watching the Vikings score 29 unanswered points and turn a promising season opener into a 39–22 Packers loss.

Now comes the response.

Green Bay travels to MetLife Stadium Sunday to face a Jets team coming off a 23–10 victory over Tennessee.

Here are three things the Packers need to fix if they want to avoid an 0–2 start.

1. Stop Beating Yourself

Let’s start with the obvious.

Twelve penalties for 98 yards.

That’s simply too much.

Green Bay actually outgained Minnesota 419–239 and still lost by 17 points.

Penalties weren’t the only reason, but constantly giving away yards certainly didn’t help.

The Packers don’t need to reinvent anything this week.

They need to play cleaner football.

2. Find a Running Game

Jordan Love threw for 387 yards against Minnesota.

That’s great.

Jordan Love also attempted 42 passes.

That’s probably not the formula Green Bay wants every Sunday.

The Packers finished Week 1 with only 66 rushing yards.

New York showed exactly what a committed ground game can do in its opener. The Jets ran the ball 39 times, with Breece Hall producing 102 yards.

Green Bay needs more balance.

That becomes even more important on the road when controlling the clock can keep a defense fresh.

3. Finish the Game

This is the big one.

Green Bay entered the fourth quarter against Minnesota with the lead.

It left with a 17-point loss.

Good teams have bad quarters.

They can’t routinely have quarters like that.

When Minnesota grabbed momentum, Green Bay never found a way to stop it.

Week 2 provides an immediate opportunity to show that collapse was an exception rather than the beginning of a trend.

No Need to Panic Yet

Starting 0–1 isn’t a disaster.

Starting 0–2 begins making everyone uncomfortable.

Green Bay showed plenty of encouraging signs offensively against Minnesota, especially through the air.

Now the Packers need to eliminate the mistakes that erased all of those positives.

Clean up the penalties.

Establish the run.

Finish the football game.

Do those three things and Green Bay should give itself a much better opportunity to leave New York with its first victory of 2026.
