Two weeks down, and we’re already learning one of the NFL’s most important lessons:

Don’t overreact to Week 1.

Some teams backed up their opening-week performances. Others made everything we thought we knew look ridiculous.

Here are three things that stood out from Week 2.

1. Maybe We Overreacted to Chicago’s Offense

Remember when Chicago scored 59 points in Week 1?

Yeah, about that.

After looking nearly unstoppable against Carolina, the Bears managed just three points in Sunday’s 9–3 loss to Minnesota.

That’s a 56-point drop in one week.

Minnesota deserves plenty of credit. The Vikings pressured Caleb Williams, forced turnovers and prevented Chicago from finding any kind of offensive rhythm.

Does one bad game mean the Bears offense is suddenly terrible?

Of course not.

But it does remind us that Week 1 can lie to us.

Chicago looked like an offensive juggernaut one week ago. Now there are plenty of questions heading into Week 3.

2. OK, Maybe San Francisco Really Is Back

Last week I said not to forget about the 49ers after they beat the Rams 27–7 in Australia.

Consider this the follow-up.

San Francisco followed that performance with a convincing 35–13 victory over Miami to improve to 2–0.

One impressive win can be dismissed as a great afternoon.

Two starts becoming a trend.

The 49ers entered this season needing to prove they belonged back in the conversation among the NFC’s best teams.

Through two weeks, they’re doing exactly that.

There’s a long way to go, but San Francisco has quickly become one of the teams I’ll be watching closely over the next few weeks.

3. Remember When I Said Baltimore Looked Scary?

Well…

Last week I wrote that Baltimore looked like one of the scariest teams in football after the Ravens opened the season with a 41–23 victory over Indianapolis.

Then New Orleans walked into Baltimore and beat them 24–17.

Welcome to the NFL.

The Ravens were held to 17 points after scoring 41 a week earlier, and suddenly that dominant Week 1 performance doesn’t feel quite as convincing.

I’m not ready to panic about Baltimore after one loss.

Lamar Jackson is still Lamar Jackson, and there’s too much talent on this roster to write the Ravens off after two games.

But Baltimore provided another reminder of just how quickly things change in this league.

Two Weeks Down

Chicago went from scoring 59 points to scoring three.

San Francisco followed one impressive performance with another.

And Baltimore went from looking like an AFC powerhouse to losing at home one week later.

Maybe that’s the biggest lesson after two weeks.

We still don’t know nearly as much as we think we do.

And that’s exactly what makes the first few weeks of the NFL season so much fun.
